- To see a multiplying church built up amongst the large Roma Gypsy community.
- To encourage and build up the existing churches in the city – encouraging unity and working together.
Working with the Roma community since 2003 Fiona, Clement and their family lead Sunday church meetings for adults, regular children’s meetings, prayer meetings, youth nights for the young men, crafts and baking sessions for the ladies as well as the feeding programme. The Roma Gypsies, darker skinned than other Albanian’s have traditionally been travellers although this was not allowed under the communist regime. They have their own unique culture and language. They are looked down on by the general Albanian population. Most are illiterate. They get married very young and live in extended families.
YWAM Elbasan has recently purchased a 2 bedroom house which is the base for
‘Amari Kanxheri’ which means ‘Our Church’ in the Roma language.
It is great to hear updates from Fiona and Clement whenever they are in the UK visiting family in Lochaber. A visit from the Jeffrey family in June 2017 gave us an insight into life in Albania and all God is doing there with the possibility of future trips.
